Putting aside some of our more imaginative projections of life after death and studying what Christian thinkers have offered for our reflection, we can grow in hope and deepen our understanding of our personal destiny. Life in the World to Come explores how a calm reflection on the significance of death and the meaning of time can assist us to prepare for our death with complete trust and hope in God. We are so accustomed to thinking in terms of rewards and punishments to define life here that we often project human forms of judgment onto God. This book helps us to reimagine and rethink some of our most basic fears.
Life in the World to Come consists of six sessions, each of which is designed to fit a one-and-a-half to two-hour time frame. A suggested time schedule appears in the front of the book. Session titles are as follows: Why Do We Hope?, Resurrection and Judgment, Where is Heaven?, Where Heaven is Not, Christ Will Come Again, and Eschatology and the Spiritual Life.
Prayer begins and concludes each of the six sessions. The sessions also include periods of reflective input, conversation time to respond to questions that shed light on the adult faith journey, silent reflection and journaling, and an invitation to action which encourages the conversion that true growth in faith requires. Time for socialization is also built into the sessions.
