Description:
This resource helps the Christian community provide to older adults’ care, support, education, opportunities for meaningful ministry, and a sense of belonging.

Part 1, which contains seven workshop sessions that employ Scripture as a basis for prayer and reflection, focuses on people who are in the early and middle stages of aging, retired people who are still active in the community. Workshop titles in this section include the following: Aging in a Culture of Denial; Retirement: Body, Mind, and Spirit; Being Whole and Being Holy; and Reconciliation and Spiritual Maturity.

Part 2 of this resource, which consists of five workshop sessions, provides training for caregivers to the elderly. Participants in these workshops are presented with specific needs of elderly people, needs that they, as caregivers, are likely to encounter. Workshop titles in this section include the following: Understanding the Call of the Caregiver, Essential Skills for the Caregiver, Family Meetings, and Praying with the Elderly.

Part 3 considers the community as a resource for activities that offer intergenerational opportunities for ministry among the aging. The book concludes with a selected bibliography, a list of pertinent audiovisual materials, and a selection of useful Internet resources.

Activities:
Part 1 focuses on those who are considered elders in the community. These people may be homebound or living in organized care communities. Part 2 focuses of the caregiver and some skills and methods that support those ministering to the homebound and those in supportive care communities.
