Description:

Recommended for Grades 10-11

This book has several goals. It reviews each of the seven sacraments with attention to both historical context and current liturgical practices of the ritual celebrations. Students come to realize that all human life is sacramental and that we encounter God through symbol, ritual, grace, and human interaction. Both formal and informal ministries associated with the sacraments are discussed to invite students to consider ways they can be of service to the Christian community. Through various opportunities for prayer, guided meditations, and learning experiences within the classroom environment, students realize that the sacraments are not just a subject to be studied but an experience to be lived within our faith system.

Lesson titles include the following: Encountering God through the Sacraments and Living the Sacraments. Other lessons focus on individual sacraments.

Activities:
This minicourse edition offers students many opportunities to read scriptural passages, respond to discussion guides, and reflect on personal experiences. In addition, students list ways that the Church responds to the physical and spiritual needs of the sick and the elderly; paraphrase statements of The Prayer of St. Francis, and let the prayer become a personal call to action; identify ways that people minister in various roles; and specify signs of commitments to family members, friends, education, job, the environment, and self.
